Underfloor insulation
Period properties have stunning features – original fireplaces, beautiful floorboards, coving etc. On the flip side, anyone who has lived in one will also know that it can get a bit drafty. To future proof these properties and lift their EPC rating, we would recommend installing underfloor insulation to the ground floor level of the property.
You will need to have a suspended timber floor to install underfloor insulation, most period properties have these. You can check by looking for air/ventilation bricks on the external walls of your home, these prevent the floorboards from rotting, but equally allow drafts into the void. If you have a basement or cellar, you will almost certainly have enough clearance for insulation to be installed. If you do not, we will need to access a corner or under stairs cupboard to carry out a survey.
