Decarbonise your home with a £5k Government backed Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. At the end of 2021 the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) announced its ‘Future Support for Low Carbon Heat: Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)’ grant. In recent weeks, Ofgem, the independent regulator for energy in Great Britain, have announced the opening date for applications. From 23 May 2022, MCS certified installers can begin to submit applications on behalf of homeowners, for the new £5k BUS grant.
If rising energy prices have incentivised you to consider updating your home heating system, you aren’t alone. Since the revised scheme was announced, many home owners have been in touch to book surveys so that they are ready to apply for the grant as soon as it opens. The main reason behind this, is due to the volume of applications that will be submitted versus the amount that has been allocated to the scheme – £450 million over three years. The criteria for the upfront grant is simply that you must be the homeowner of the property and that there are no ‘conditions’ that have not been met on the energy performance certificate (EPC). The latter element does have some scope for flexibility, for example, if the property is listed and insulation cannot be installed due to this aspect the criteria can be bypassed. So long as the properties efficiency reaches the standard set by MCS (microgeneration certification scheme) of 2.8 COP, then the property should be eligible for the grant.
What is COP?
The efficiency of a heat pump is measured by its Coefficient of Performance (COP), which is the ratio of heat produced per unit of electricity consumed when pumping heat.
How do I Apply?
1. Schedule a call back with one of the team, or call the office
2. One of our experienced team will ask you a series of questions about your property to determine if an air source heat pump (ASHP) is suitable for your home
3. A home survey will be scheduled. This involves full heat loss calculations against the size of the property and current insulation, this is to ensure the correct sized ASHP and hot water cylinder is recommended. This is a good time to consider if you would like to move radiators or install underfloor heating.
4. An estimate will be sent out for approval (as soon as the estimate has been approved we can begin to process the paperwork for the BUS grant)
5. A date will be scheduled for the installation of the low carbon heating system
6. A final Technical Survey will be carried out and final costs confirmed prior to installation.
Carbon Saving Group will submit the application for the BUS grant on your behalf, once we have installed the ASHP system to your home we must submit the new calculations for your property before the voucher is released to us.
